I heard a report yesterday that "business groups are crowing" about the Republican victory.
Ah yes. What's bad for poor people, workers, minorities and the environment is good for business. It's enough to make me want to become a communist. Hey, maybe Ralph Nader was right, after all.
Naaah.

I tell you I'm thinking, again, of moving to Costa Rica, or Puerto Vaillarta, Mexico or Australia. The first time I felt this impulse to get away from America was exactly two years ago today.
The cost of living in many of these Mexican resort towns is lower than living in the U.S. I speak a little Spanish and can pick up more, and I write for a living, which I can do anywhere, so long as there's some sort of modem and electricity.
America keeps lurching to the right, and it's making my stomach turn. I want to live in a country with a democratically elected leader. I want to live in a country that doesn't have a hard-on for war. I want to live in a country where Tom Delay and Trent Lott and Drinky McDumbass have no power over me.

Thanks, Tom

For Nothing

Well, it's official. The lunatics have taken over the asylum. How about those permanent tax cuts? And how about that permanent war on liberals terrorism? I blame the Democrat leadership for not standing up and pointing out what a fucking mess the economy is in; for not pointing out Bush's hard right, mandate-free, agenda.

Contact your Democrat representative in Congress (if you still have one) and let them know that you expect them to FIGHT Bush and the Republicans, not "find common ground" with them.

'Gay sheep that mate only with other rams have different brain structures from "straight" sheep, a finding that may shed light on human sexuality, U.S. researchers said on Monday.'

News from CNN. Andrew Sullivan had no comment.

Check David Podvin.

"John D. Rockefeller broke nearly every law in the book while gaining control of the oil industry and, after being nailed by the feds, he also was allowed to keep what he stole (don’t try this at home). Over a hundred years later, his family still wields tremendous power, all of it stemming from funds that were acquired by breaking the law. The same illicit windfall of assets and influence has benefited succeeding generations of Bushes, Fords, DuPonts, Mellons, Waltons, and other dynasties that were created through lawless brutality and perpetuated through the inheritance of blood money.

Meanwhile, affirmative action is immoral, because it is not based on merit."

I was listening to the local nazi-radio again. The squawker of the moment was talking about how liberal policies cause "disasters" that catch the liberals by surprise and have to be cleaned up.

His case in point was the city of San Francisco and the cash payments they give the homeless. Now they have more homeless people who live in the city, because they're coming for the money. "What kind of thinking is this?" asks our ditto-monkey. Assuming for a moment that his premise was sound, ie., 1) it's a 'disaster' and 2) liberals are surprised by the fact that homeless people are sticking around for the money, let's examine some conservative policies.

How about gun control? I'd say that tens of thousands of people being killed each year by handguns is a true disaster, but conservatives won't even admit there is a problem. What kind of thinking is this?
And forget about trying to do something about the problem.

There is no problem, because guns don't kill people. People with guns kill people.
Don't you feel better?

How about the environment? Again we get head-in-the-sand denial. "There is no such thing as global warming." It must be true, because Rush Limbaugh and George Bush both said it. At least liberals, in this ditto-monkey's scenario, seem able to recognize after the fact that their policies may be the cause of a problem. But not conservatives.

Budget deficit? Tax cuts have nothing to do with it.

Air pollution and high gas prices? SUVs have nothing to do with it.

Terrorist attacks? U.S. foreign policy has nothing to do with it.

Corporate crime? Deregulation has nothing to do with it.

Declining life expectancy? Lack of health insurance has nothing to do with it.

Teen pregnancy? Lack of education has nothing to do with it.

Impeaching Clinton? Sex had nothing to do with it.

Rising crime rates? The economy has nothing to do with it.

Falling grades among American school kids? Defunding public education has nothing to do with it.

You get the idea. Since when have conservatives ever taken responsibility for the consequences of their policies? Honesty and integrity have nothing to do with it.

Dear Ann Slanders:

What's the best thing I can do today to get a conservative elected?
Truly Helpless In Election Follies

Dear THIEF:
To insure a conservative victory, keep a liberal from voting. Crack teams of voter suppression volunteers are being deployed around the country right now, and it's not too late to help them. Intimidate some black people, spread disinformation about polling places and times, gather a large group and pretend to be election "monitors" while taking down the description and license plate numbers of voters who look like liberals (you know; colored, gay, poor, etc.). Remember, this is war and we as Christians have special dispensation to stop the liberals from voting, no matter what it takes. Ask yourself why liberals vote at all. They hate America, and their votes can only harm our great country. That's why we must stop them. Now go out there and stop a liberal voter now! And thanks for reading.
